For Immediate Release:
May 3rd, 2010 - Bassman Magazine editor Wil Wegman of Bradford ON has resigned from his position as editor. Wegman explained, "Since early 2009 I have had the privilege of being the editor of BassMan Magazine – Canada’s only all bass, all the time magazine. Editing this quarterly publication allowed me to continue with my full time job at Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources yet offered me an incredible opportunity to learn a new side of the publication business in my ‘spare’ time.
When I took on this role I agreed to help put the magazine together for a period of time before re-assessing my role as editor. Over a year later and while the magazine is up for sale I find myself ready to move on. It has been a tremendously rewarding experience to have been part of a team devoted to producing such a ground breaking publication entirely focussed on my favorite species – bass!”
"Wil is one of the most respected outdoor writers in the industry and we are forever grateful for all he has done to make the magazine a world class journal for bass enthusiasts," says Bassman publisher Todd Latham. He went on to say that, “We are currently looking for new ownership with strong ties to the Canadian bass fishing market who will continue to provide Bassman readers with a first class publication.”
“I appreciate all the hard work of associate publisher Tracy Kay and the creative genius of the staff at Musky Graphics led by Gord Hoey. I especially enjoyed working with fellow outdoor writers and bass anglers as we tried to develop truly unique and interesting articles geared specifically for our Canadian market. It is with heavy heart that I am now stepping down and I’ll really miss all those associated with Bassman. I wish everyone nothing but success and will continue to be a strong supporter of this great Canadian publication,” Wegman concluded.
The Spring 2010 issue of Bassman, Wegman’s last - has just been mailed to subscribers and is hitting the shelves of variety stores, and Chapters outlets across Ontario. The magazine features a variety of excellent articles including an interview Wegman did with world record bass holder Manabu Kurita of Japan. There is an in-depth guide to bass fishing Lake St Clair by Canadian pro and full time guide Jon Bondy. Derek Strub has a look at how the Canadian contingent ruled the podium at the 2009 Stren Series in Clayton New York and the work of artist Murray Henderson is featured. A piece by new writer Andrew Shufelt on fishing from the cottage dock – with exclusive tips from Denny and Chad Brauer, is sure to provide greater catches for readers this season. There’s also a new science feature by Dr Bruce Tufts, a Bass Biologist article on Dr Mark Ridgway, a women in the sport piece by Ashley Rae, and “On Tour with Spiro” premiers in the spring 2010 issue.
Based in Toronto, Bassman Magazine is the only Canadian magazine devoted solely to the art and science of Canadian bass fishing.
